Hévíz is a town built around a single extraordinary fact: the largest swimmable thermal lake in Europe, warm enough to bathe in year-round, with water lilies on the surface and a bathhouse on stilts above the spring. The full Hévíz catalogue is in the iOS app.
"Hévíz is a lake with a town attached, and the lake is warm. Everything else follows."
The lake at Hévíz turns over its entire volume in a matter of days, fed by a deep thermal spring that keeps the water bathably warm even in midwinter, when steam sheets off the surface and bathers drift among the lily pads. The wooden bathhouse complex above the water dates the resort tradition to the Habsburg era, and the town around it runs the full Hungarian cure apparatus: mud treatments, drinking cures, and spa hotels drawing the same water.
Our Hévíz Curator's Pick is the lake itself and its bathhouse. The iOS catalogue covers the spa hotels and bath complexes around it. Winter bathing in the lake is the connoisseur's season; the venue page explains the practicalities.
Each card links to a full venue page with hours, access notes, type, and editorial context. Cards are ordered alphabetically.
